BOI

The Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) is a requirement introduced under the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) for businesses in the United States, The BOI requires ownership and control information to help combat financial crimes, such as money laundering.

While there were Court Stays that allowed businesses to hold off on filing, these stays have been lifted and BOI reporting must be filed before March 21, 2025. The Heisler Law Group plans to offer filing services starting the first business day in March 2025. Please visit HTTP://www.heisler.org/boi on or after the first business day of March 2025 to see your options in using The Heisler Law Group including cost.

If you are required to file and do not, you will be subjected to fines of up to $593 per day and posable other criminal sanctions.

NEW BILLING SYSTEM:

In January 2025 we started the process of changing over to a new Law Office Management System. Part of this system is our billing system and clients may notice some changes.

The last invoice statement in December 2024 was for transactions through the end of November 2024. The first invoice in February 2025 will be using our new system, however, we need to point out a few things. All account balances (A/R and TRUST) were transferred on the first of January 2025. This means that payments clients make toward their A/R and TRUST accounts will not show in the normal place. You will see these transactions on your first invoice under either “Services” or “Expenses” as a NOTE. The NOTE will reflect the transaction, however the amount will reflect ZERO. This is because the purpose of the NOTE is to show you the transaction that was part of the amounts considered when transferring to the new system.

YES we know that the amount reflects ZERO

We hope that this new system will allow invoices more frequently than every several months

NOTIFICATIONS:

Our new system will be sending notifications (including invoices) from a new email address, notifications@heisler.org. We suggest clients set up rules in their email system that any emails received from an email address that ‘contains’ @heisler.org are moved to a folder just for emails from our firm. Our new system also allows our staff to send clients text (SMS) messages to cell phone numbers we have on file for a client. When our office sends a text (SMS) message, it will be from 833.490.4741. Once you have received a text from this number you may text back to the number. You should NOT send to this number if your cell number is connected to more than one account / legal matter.

Our appointment reminder system will be sending messages from 810.671.0610 and this number is ONLY for our appointment reminder system (when used). This system is not fully in place and clients should not assume they will get text reminders.

PORTAL / DROPBOX

As many clients already know, we have for a few years now been using DropBox to deliver documents to clients. It is our goal to switch all clients over to an online portal through 2025. The advantage of our portal will be that documents will be available for more than the current 28 days. As part of the portal, clients will also have access to an app that will provide clients with even more information about their legal matters.

LATE FEES:
The retainer agreement the clients signed provides our firm may charge a late fee when a client’s account becomes past due. Starting in 2025 with our new system, we will be charging clients late fees under the retainer agreement.

Some payment plans, not all, can qualify for waived late fees in our new system. This is not an automatic process to have late fees waived. Plans that had qualified in the past to eliminate late fees may not qualify any longer in our new system. You may reach out by March 7, 2025, to see if your current plan can have a late fee waiver where the first late fee charge will be credited back if the payment plan qualifies. If your current payment plan does not qualify and if you request to change to a plan that does waive the late fees by March 7, 2025, sign the required document for the new payment plan and have it back to our office by March 28, 2025, late fees in February and March 2025 will be credited back.

If you are not under a payment plan and would like to set up a late fee waiver payment plan, you may be able to have future late fees waived, but not prior past due fees. Clients were advised of this in December 2024

ACH PAYMENTS

We no longer process weekly ACH payments, we only process monthly ACH payments. Clients that had weekly or bi-weekly ACH payment plans were terminated in 2024.

We are still accepting monthly ACH payment plans (at this time), however, at this time there is a $1.00 fee for each payment via ACH attempt.

PAYMENT LINK PAYMENT PLAN:

A few clients used prior payment links to set up a payment plan. That was part of our prior system and thus was terminated in 2024. If you want to set up a payment plan, you can reach out to our office to see what payment plans are available.

PAYPAL:

If you are using our PayPal payment system. These payment plans do NOT qualify for late fee waivers. You can transfer to another plan as provided above and may qualify for late fee waivers as provided above.
